I love decorating for Christmas. I have five bins chock-full of Christmas decorations, and I would probably have more if I hadn’t lived in apartments for so long. But this year I got to break them all out and decorate my new house. Before I started, a trip to the pop-up tree store in
Little 5 Points was in order. Since when are Christmas trees $75?!? I thought I would spend $40 on a tree. I was wrong. Of course all the trees I liked were $75, but I refused to spend that much. So…I found a tree (a little skinnier than I would normally like – I’m a fat tree kind of girl) that was $50. With my tree set up in my old-school stand (I need to invest in one of those self-leveling ones), I was ready to decorate this past weekend. I popped in my iPod and found my Christmas playlist and brought in all my bins. It’s pretty cool to dig everything out. Some of the tree ornaments are from the 1970’s, some my mom made for me and some just make me smile. My mom always had those cool bubble lights on our tree. They’re really hard to find now, so my tree doesn’t have any…yet. And when I was a kid and we hung our stockings, we always hung these pretty little white ballerina ornaments in between. I asked my mom about them this year and she said her mom made them and that I can have them. Can’t wait to add them to my décor! So my house is decorated, I have white lights around my front door and I’m ready for Santa to come. I’m used to him coming early to my house. When I was a kid, we’d go to church on Christmas Eve and by the time we got back, Santa would have left my gifts. The real reason for this was because I went to my Dad’s on Christmas Day, but being an inquisitive child, I left a note with Santa’s cookies one year asking why he came to my house so early. And I got a response! My grandma used her big flow-y handwriting (I didn’t know this back then) and answered that I was such a good girl that he came to my house first. She even added the line “Please excuse my handwriting as I didn’t have time to take off my gloves. Ho ho ho!” So…maybe I was a little spoiled as a kid (only child and all) but I like to think I was spoiled, just not spoiled rotten. By the way, I also left a note for the Easter Bunny asking how chocolate is made and asked the tooth fairy to leave me a picture of her. But those are blogs for another day! In the meantime, Happy and Merry to you and yours! Ho ho ho!
