Georgian Terrace Hotel Grand Opening: May 2009
To re-launch the historic Georgian Terrace to Atlanta’s society, VIPs, hipsters, fashionistas, business executives, meeting planners and more, we hosted a grand opening party that paid homage to the past and showcased the present of “Atlanta’s Modern Classic.” Our intent was to illustrate the hotel’s many capabilities as a conference center and an event venue for the most discerning brides. Guests arrived in masses and were greeted by classic cars lining the driveway. We hired the band Kingsized to perform with the burlesque dancers, The Dames Aflame, in one ballroom and Lyle Lovett back-up singer Francine Reed along with ballroom dancers in the other ballroom. We also secured fashion designer and Project Runway Season Three Finalist Mychael Knight to showcase the premiere of his new capsule collection inspired by the 1940s. Ten to 12 models posed around areas of activity during the party — situated in the lobby as guests arrived, throughout the ballrooms during performances and in the guest rooms during tours. To highlight the splendor of the bridal suites, he created a bridal gown specifically for our party that a model wore while lounging in the suites. In addition, Mychael hosted a private VIP party an hour before our grand opening and thus we benefited from the spillover and the prestige he leant to our event. When guests left they received a signature Georgian Terrace gift — two boxed Southern-inspired ”GT” handmade chocolate truffles that we sourced as a gift. The hotel secured several corporate events and weddings as a result of the grand opening party and we secured nearly 100 hits in the local, regional and national media.
