Our Mission:

Root Local convenes environmental allies, identifies opportunities for impact, connects stakeholders, and educates communities to conserve our natural resources.

Organizational Background:

Root Local was born out of a dinner with friends who hoped to inform and inspire their networks to make more environmentally sustainable choices. Through careful stakeholder research and community feedback, we understood there is a need for both individuals and organizations to convene across all sectors of the sustainability movement.  Today, we work together with the community so that the conservation sector can effect significant sustainable change.  We support local collective action, to create global environmental impact. 

We focus on six environmental sectors:

●      Food Systems

●      Travel & Transportation

●      Air & Water Quality Management

●      Canopy & Land Management

●      Green Buildings and Practices

●      Sustainable Fashion and Products

We are a resource for environmental allies to inform and inspire Atlantans with a deeper understanding of - and accessibility to - the sustainability movement. We believe having an informed community that works together under a shared plan and goals can play the biggest role in protecting and sustaining our environment. We continue to expand our reach daily through our curated environmental network map, which allows stakeholders to visualize the interconnectivity of metro Atlanta’s environmental organizations.

Where we are:

We received our 501c3 nonprofit status in August 2022, and have built a robust and active Pollinator Network of more than 120 engaged individuals who attend monthly events. We convene sector-wide discussions to inform and inspire a coalition to ensure a more sustainable future through shared goals and performance metrics so that we can support data-driven decisions.

We are looking for a new executive director to help usRoot Local will c connect individuals and with these nonprofits to our goals in collective environmental impact., so each person can find their passion in the work. Root Local  will create a pipeline of people interested in supporting these nonprofits through volunteering, serving on the board, and/or providing financial support. We believe that conservationists are hungry for a more cohesive action plan with everyone seated at the table. With nonprofits leading the way, individuals can learn that big change starts in our own homes, and we aim to provide plan to serve as a model for the future we want to see. Job Description:

This is an incredible opportunity for a driven, focused and passionate individual who wants to lead an organization. The Executive Director (ED) reports to the Board of Directors. The ED is chiefly responsible for upholding the mission, leveraging Board expertise, leading day-to-day operations, fundraising, ensuring the organization meets its financial objectives, and increasing awareness within the community. This is a remote work opportunity, and due to the localized nature of our programming, ED must live in Atlanta.

The Executive Director has a broad range of leadership, management and oversight responsibilities, including but not limited to:

●      Ensure that the organization has a long-range strategy and consistently works towards progress on that strategy.

●      Work with the Board in preparing the annual budget and ensuring the organization operates within budget guidelines. Maintain official records and documents and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

●      Manage volunteer network for effective mission engagement

●      Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in sustainability across all sectors.

●      Proficient in technology to manage organization's financial,  programs

●      Manage effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components to measure outcomes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other constituents.

●      Leverage Board’s expertise and connections.

●      Establish, manage, and steward strategic relationships with donors, sponsors, partner organizations, volunteers, government agencies, elected officials, and other stakeholders.

●      Serve as an external face of the organization with the ability to tell Root Local’s story, and ensure all activities and programs are properly publicized internally and externally.

●      Develop an annual plan for fundraising from diverse funding sources.

●      Create and execute strategies for earned income.

●      Other duties as assigned and/or as required with the evolution of the organization.

Required Education/Skills/Experience/Training: 

●      Previous experience in a senior leadership role, managing a busy, fast‐paced organization. Experience with a smaller organization in its start-up phase is preferred.

●      Connected with, and previous support of, organizations and practices focused on sustainability, environmental education and awareness. 

●      Strong aptitude for verbal and written communication, presentation, and relationship development. Ability to speak passionately and persuasively about sustainability and the need for change.

●      Ability to measure outcomes and communicate to multiple audiences.

●      Experience with fundraising and development, especially with special events.

●      Experience with managing relationships of varied constituents leveraging technology.

●      A collaborative self starter.

Compensation Package:

$80,000-$90,000 Salary range, DOE

Stipend to cover medical benefits

Two weeks paid time off
