STAYCATION - ALL I EVER WANTED STAYCATION - HAD TO GET AWAY
Our new crop of summer interns has been navigating all that our fabulous city has to offer. They've hit the Atlanta BeltLine, Ponce City Market, the High Museum of Art and even the new Whole Foods in Midtown. And this got us thinking. With so much to do right here in the ATL, why not take a Staycation in our own backyard? These past two quarters have ushered in a plethora of new hotel options, including Buckhead's Waldorf Astoria (don't miss the spa!), re-flagged from the Mandarin Oriental in December; Canopy by Hilton in Midtown (we love Chef Christian Messier!) and the first dual brand of an AC Hotel and Moxy located in the heart of Midtown (High Note is the hottest rooftop deck). CLICK HERE for more hotel news. Where to eat? We've got you covered! Well - Eater's got you covered because the Eater Heatmap is our jam. Of note - we're thrilled to welcome Ammazza back to Inman Park. And we hope everyone will support Root Baking Company. It's a bit hidden upstairs at Ponce City Market but well worth checking out. In fact, the James Beard Foundation named it a semifinalist this year. What to do? We love the High Museum! And there are three great ways to experience it in June: THIS Friday, June 7 (and the first Friday of every month), the galleries stay open late for special tours, drawing demonstrations, live music, and featured guests. THIS Sunday, June 9 (the second Sunday of every month), the museum offers free admission. And on Friday, June 21 (and the third Friday of every month), enjoy live jazz. Feel like hanging around in Midtown? Walk across the street to the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) to see "Passione Italiana," which chronicles the evolution of the espresso machine (up through June 15). You can also stroll up to Piedmont Park, hit the BeltLine and check out the Atlanta Botanical Garden's giant topiaries that comprise this summer’s blockbuster show, "Imaginary Worlds: Once Upon a Time." Wherever your staycation finds you - stay cool, friends! It's hot out there.
