After we promoted the Atlanta viewing party for Rihanna's Savage X Fenty fashion show on Friday night, we thought girl power couldn't get any better. Models of all shapes, sizes, gender identities and abilities strutted their stuff in lingerie amid an explosion of choreography, amazing entertainment and an incredible set. It was female empowerment at its finest.
And then Michelle Williams dropped this one on us during Sunday night's Emmy Awards:
“The next time a woman — and especially a woman of color, because she stands to make 52 cents on the dollar compared to her white, male counterpart — tells you what she needs in order to do her job, listen to her,” Williams said. “Believe her.”
Congratulations on your Emmy for best actress in a limited series or TV movie for your role as the Broadway dancer and actress Gwen Verdon in FX’s “Fosse/Verdon.” You blew us away, girl.
