Second Helpings Atlanta has a goal to raise $80,000 toward the purchase of a new 26-foot refrigerated box truck, and here’s why:

SHA’s daily operations are food rescue routes that volunteers support through a 90-Minute Model. Every day of the week, volunteers drive their own vehicles to food donors, load up, and then drive to a partner agency to distribute the food to their clients.

But did you know that Second Helpings Atlanta also leases a 26-foot refrigerated box truck to rescue large volume donations?

Late in 2020, Second Helpings Atlanta began a relationship with the HelloFresh distribution center in Newnan, rescuing their surplus meal kits and cases of fresh produce. This allows SHA to distribute more food to partner agencies and enables HelloFresh to be a more sustainable company.

In 2021, the Second Helpings Atlanta began fundraising to purchase their very own 26-foot refrigerated box truck and are in line to have one built and delivered in early 2023.

As rates of food insecurity have grown, so has the need to increase capacity. This investment in a truck means that Second Helpings Atlanta can rescue more fresh, surplus food and drive it to those who need it the most. And here’s how you can help:

You can help Second Helpings Atlanta kick off their 2022 Day of Giving by making a donation in advance to ensure they meet our fundraising goal. Give today by clicking HERE.
